short-chain
Not many segments
Short-chain describes molecules, especially fatty acids, with relatively few carbon atoms in their backbone—typically fewer than six.
The term appears in biochemistry and nutrition: Short-chain fatty acids are produced when fiber ferments in the colon.
Contrast with medium-chain and long-chain, which have progressively more carbons.
