glyceride

Glycerol plus acids

A glyceride is an ester formed from glycerol and one or more fatty acids.

Glycerides are the primary components of fats and oils found in both plants and animals.

When glycerol bonds with one fatty acid, the result is a monoglyceride; with two, a diglyceride; with three, a triglyceride.

Triglycerides are by far the most common form, making up the bulk of dietary fats and serving as the body's main form of stored energy.
