glaives

Medieval cutting polearms

Glaives are polearms—weapons with blades mounted on long shafts.

The historical glaive had a single-edged blade like a large knife attached to a pole, used by medieval infantry.

In fantasy games and fiction, glaives often appear as exotic bladed weapons, sometimes thrown or double-ended, departing considerably from the historical design: The warrior spun her glaive in a deadly arc.
