gin mill

Seedy drinking establishment

A gin mill is a bar or saloon, especially a cheap or disreputable one.

The term is old-fashioned American slang, evoking seedy drinking establishments of an earlier era: He spent his evenings in some gin mill on the Lower East Side.

Despite the name, gin mills served all manner of alcohol, not just gin.
