brass rail
Shiny metal bar
A brass rail is a metal bar, typically made of brass, attached horizontally along the foot of a bar counter where patrons rest their feet while drinking.
By extension, brass rail often refers to the bar itself or the drinking establishment: He spent most evenings at the brass rail.
Brass rails also appear as decorative or functional fixtures in other contexts—along staircases, in front of theater stages, or as protective barriers.
