gigatons
Massive weight measurements
Gigatons is the plural of gigaton, a unit of mass equal to one billion metric tons.
The term appears almost exclusively in discussions of carbon emissions and climate change: The atmosphere absorbs roughly 40 gigatons of CO2 annually.
Also used for measuring the explosive yield of nuclear weapons, where one gigaton equals the force of one billion tons of TNT.
