geometric progression

Ratio-based series

A geometric progression is a sequence of numbers where each term is multiplied by the same constant to get the next: 2, 4, 8, 16, 32 multiplies by 2; 81, 27, 9, 3, 1 multiplies by ⅓.

The term often emphasizes rapid, accelerating growth: Costs increased in geometric progression.

Also called geometric sequence.
