vegetal pole
Embryo's bottom hemisphere
The vegetal pole is the region of an egg or early embryo that contains the most yolk, making it denser and slower to divide during development.
It sits opposite the animal pole, which has less yolk and divides more rapidly.
In many species, cells at the vegetal pole give rise to structures like the gut and other internal organs.
The vegetal pole determines the embryo's initial body axis.
