gamecock
Bred for combat
A gamecock is a rooster bred and trained for cockfighting—a blood sport where two birds fight, often to the death.
The term implies aggression and fighting spirit, qualities selectively bred into these birds.
Gamecocks appear as mascots and symbols, most notably for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks.
