gag-a-day
Standalone comic format
A gag-a-day comic strip or cartoon delivers a self-contained joke in each installment rather than following a continuous narrative.
The format dominates newspaper comics—Garfield, The Far Side, Dilbert—where readers expect a quick laugh without needing to follow ongoing storylines.
The term also applies to comedians or shows that prioritize rapid-fire jokes over sustained bits.
