horror comic

A horror comic is a comic book featuring stories of terror, the supernatural, or the macabre—monsters, ghosts, serial killers, and gruesome deaths.

The genre flourished in the 1950s with titles like *Tales from the Crypt* before moral panic led to industry self-censorship.

Horror comics revived in later decades and remain a staple of the medium: I spent my allowance on horror comics at the drugstore.
