fuzztone

Overdriven amp sound

Fuzztone is a distorted, buzzing sound effect applied to an electric guitar, created by overdriving the signal until it clips and breaks up.

The effect became iconic in 1960s rock: The Rolling Stones' "Satisfaction" opens with that famous fuzztone riff.

A fuzz pedal or fuzz box produces this effect.
