free periods
Gaps between classes
Free periods are scheduled gaps in a student's timetable when no classes are assigned.
In secondary schools and universities, students use free periods to study, complete assignments, or simply rest between lessons: I finished my essay during my free period.
British English favors this term; Americans more often say free period in the singular or study hall.
