base paths
Routes between bases
The base paths are the lanes between bases on a baseball diamond that runners must follow.
A runner who strays too far outside the base path while avoiding a tag can be called out.
The term appears in discussions of baserunning strategy and rules disputes: He was called out for leaving the base path.
