forkballs
Splitter's nastier cousins
A forkball is a baseball pitch gripped with the index and middle fingers spread wide apart, wedged against the ball's seams.
The grip causes the ball to drop sharply as it approaches the plate, making it difficult to hit.
The pitch is similar to but more extreme than the splitter (split-finger fastball), putting considerable stress on the arm.
