forebay
Water holding area
A forebay is a reservoir or basin that holds water just before it enters a turbine, pump, or other machinery.
In hydroelectric plants, the forebay collects water from the intake channel and feeds it to the penstock.
The term also applies to similar holding areas in mills and industrial water systems: The forebay was silted up and needed dredging.
