footpad
Dog's sole cushion
A footpad is a robber who operates on foot, typically ambushing travelers on roads or in dark streets.
The term is historical, evoking 17th- and 18th-century England: The footpad demanded his purse at knifepoint.
Unlike a highwayman, who rode horseback, the footpad was a lower-class criminal who attacked pedestrians.
Separately, a footpad is a cushioned pad on an animal's foot.
