flood walls
Riverside protective structures
Flood walls are barriers built along waterways to prevent flooding during high water events.
Unlike levees, which are typically earthen embankments, flood walls are vertical structures made of concrete, steel, or masonry: The city installed flood walls along the riverfront after the 1993 disaster.
They protect urban areas where space constraints make traditional levees impractical.
