flexures

Points of bending

Flexures are bends, curves, or the act of bending.

The term appears most often in technical contexts: anatomy describes flexures in the colon where the intestine curves sharply, and engineering uses flexure to describe how materials bend under stress.

A flexure can be the curved part itself or the process of curving: the flexure of a beam under load.
