flammables

Things that ignite

Flammables are substances that catch fire easily—gasoline, alcohol, propane, and the like.

The term appears most often on warning labels and in safety contexts: Store flammables away from heat sources.

Though inflammable means the same thing, flammables emerged to avoid the confusing impression that the in- prefix meant "not."
