firefighting foam
Flame-smothering chemical spray
Firefighting foam is a fire-suppressing agent that smothers flames by cutting off oxygen and cooling burning materials.
It's especially effective against fuel fires that water alone can't extinguish.
The foam is created by mixing water with a concentrate and aerating the mixture.
Some formulations contain PFAS chemicals, raising environmental concerns about contamination of groundwater near airports and military bases where foam training occurs.
