forever chemicals
Never-degrading synthetic compounds
Forever chemicals is an informal name for per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS)—synthetic compounds used in nonstick cookware, water-resistant clothing, and firefighting foam.
They're called forever chemicals because their molecular bonds resist breakdown, allowing them to persist in the environment and accumulate in human tissue for decades: Tests found forever chemicals in the local water supply.
