fer-de-lance

Deadly tropical serpent

A fer-de-lance is a large, highly venomous pit viper native to Central and South America.

The name comes from French for "lance head," describing the snake's distinctively triangular skull.

Fer-de-lance are responsible for more snakebite deaths in the Americas than any other species, partly because they thrive near human settlements and agricultural areas.
