lancehead

Venomous South American

A lancehead is a venomous pit viper found in Central and South America, responsible for more snakebite deaths in the Americas than any other genus.

The name refers to the distinctive triangular, lance-shaped head common to these snakes.

The fer-de-lance is the most notorious lancehead species.
