fantast

Head-in-clouds type

A fantast is a dreamer or visionary—someone given to fanciful ideas or impractical schemes.

The word carries a slightly dismissive tone, suggesting someone disconnected from reality: He was a fantast who believed he could change the world with poetry alone.

Less common than fantasist, which has largely replaced it.
