face-plate
Outlet wall covering
A face-plate is a protective or decorative cover for the front of something.
In electrical work, it's the plate covering a wall outlet or switch.
On machinery, particularly lathes, it's a disk that holds the workpiece.
Face-plates also cover lock mechanisms on doors or protect the display area of electronic devices.
