extradural

Beyond brain membrane

Extradural means outside the dura mater, the tough outermost membrane surrounding the brain and spinal cord.

The term appears in medical contexts: an extradural hematoma is bleeding between the skull and this membrane, while an extradural injection delivers medication into the space outside it.

Synonymous with epidural.
