executive director
Organization's top leader
An executive director is the senior manager who runs an organization's day-to-day operations, typically reporting to a board of directors.
In nonprofits, this is usually the top staff position: She was hired as executive director of the foundation.
In corporations, the title may indicate a board member who also holds a management role, distinguishing them from non-executive (outside) directors.
