eulogize

Honor the departed

To eulogize is to praise someone highly, especially in a formal speech honoring a person who has died.

The eulogy at a funeral is the most familiar context: She was asked to eulogize her grandfather at the service.

The word extends to lavish praise of the living, sometimes with an ironic edge suggesting the praise is excessive or premature.
