trichinosis

Undercooked meat illness

Trichinosis is a parasitic disease caused by eating undercooked meat, especially pork, containing larvae of the roundworm Trichinella.

The larvae migrate through the body, embedding in muscle tissue and causing fever, muscle pain, and swelling.

Once common, it has become rare in developed countries due to improved meat inspection and cooking practices.
