encrypting
Making messages unreadable
Encrypting is the process of converting information into a coded form that unauthorized parties cannot read.
When you encrypt a file, message, or data stream, you transform it using an algorithm so that only someone with the proper key or password can decrypt it back to its original form.
Make sure you're encrypting sensitive documents before sending them.
The term applies broadly to digital security but also to any systematic scrambling of information to protect it from unwanted access.
