encaustic painting
Heated wax medium
Encaustic painting is a technique using pigments mixed with hot wax, typically beeswax, applied to a surface while molten.
The wax is then reheated to fuse the layers, creating a luminous, textured finish.
The method dates to ancient Egypt and Greece—some of the oldest surviving painted portraits use encaustic.
She prefers encaustic painting for its rich surface quality.
