emo rap
Melancholic hip-hop fusion
Emo rap blends hip-hop with the confessional themes and melodic sensibilities of emo rock—lyrics dwell on depression, heartbreak, anxiety, and alienation over beats that mix trap production with guitar samples.
Artists like Lil Peep and XXXTentacion brought the style mainstream in the late 2010s: I've been listening to a lot of emo rap lately.
