chillwave

Dreamy lo-fi electronica

Chillwave is a genre of electronic music that emerged around 2009, characterized by hazy synthesizers, dreamy vocals, lo-fi production, and nostalgic references to 1980s pop.

The sound evokes summer, VHS static, and faded memories.

The term was coined somewhat mockingly but stuck: I've been listening to a lot of chillwave lately.

Also called glo-fi.
