emergency airway
Urgent breathing passage
An emergency airway is a medical device or procedure used to establish breathing when normal airways are blocked or compromised.
This includes tools like laryngeal masks and emergency tracheotomies performed when someone is choking, unconscious, or suffering trauma: The paramedic inserted an emergency airway at the scene.
The term also describes the airway passage itself once established.
