elevator cable
Vertical transport line
Elevator cable is the steel rope that supports and moves an elevator car within its shaft.
Modern elevators use multiple cables for redundancy—any single cable can typically hold the car's full weight.
The cables run over a pulley at the top of the shaft, connected to counterweights that balance the load.
The inspector found fraying in one of the elevator cables.
