egg case
Shark's mermaid purse
An egg case is a protective structure enclosing eggs, produced by certain animals.
Sharks and rays produce leathery egg cases sometimes called mermaid's purses.
Insects like cockroaches and mantises form egg cases called oothecae—hardened masses containing multiple eggs.
The term also applies to any container used to store or transport chicken eggs.
