editorial note
Author's inserted comment
An editorial note is an explanatory comment inserted by an editor, publisher, or compiler rather than the original author.
Such notes clarify context, correct errors, flag uncertain readings, or provide background information: An editorial note explains that the letter's date is approximate.
Often abbreviated as "Ed. note" or set in brackets to distinguish it from the main text.
