dust trail
Dirty air behind
A dust trail is the cloud of fine particles kicked up behind something moving across dry ground—a vehicle on a dirt road, a herd of animals crossing a plain, a person running through a desert.
The trail hangs in the air briefly before settling: We spotted the convoy by its dust trail from miles away.
In astronomy, a dust trail is the debris left along a comet's orbital path, which produces meteor showers when Earth passes through it.
