A duplicate charge is a billing error where the same transaction appears twice on an account, resulting in a double payment.
Common with credit cards and bank accounts, it typically happens when payment systems malfunction or merchants accidentally process a sale multiple times: I noticed a duplicate charge on my statement and called the bank to dispute it.
