drop zones
Parachutist target fields
Drop zones are designated areas where things are deposited from above.
In military and skydiving contexts, a drop zone is where parachutists land or where supplies are air-dropped: The platoon secured the drop zone before dawn.
In everyday use, a drop zone is an informal spot for dumping items—keys, mail, bags: The kitchen counter became our family's drop zone.
