dregs
Settled wine particles
Dregs are the sediment that settles at the bottom of a liquid—the bits of grounds left in a coffee cup, the residue in a wine bottle.
By extension, dregs means the least valuable remnants of anything: the dregs of society, drinking the dregs of his savings.
The word almost always appears in plural form.
