downdraught
Descending air current
A downdraught is a downward current of air, especially in a chimney or flue that prevents smoke from rising properly.
The term appears in meteorology for descending air masses and in aviation for sudden downward gusts that can affect aircraft.
Also spelled *downdraft*, particularly in American English.
