door jamb
Threshold's vertical borders
A door jamb is the vertical side piece of a door frame—the part against which the door closes and into which the latch or bolt engages.
Most doors have two jambs, one on each side.
The term extends to window frames as well.
The door jamb was splintered where someone had forced entry.
