discoverer
One who uncovers
A discoverer is someone who finds or becomes aware of something previously unknown or unrecognized.
The term applies to explorers who reach new lands, scientists who identify phenomena, and anyone who uncovers what was hidden: Columbus is often credited as the discoverer of America, though others arrived earlier.
Discovery implies being first—you discover what no one knew before, or at least what you yourself didn't know.
