dickey

Fake shirt insert

A dickey is a detachable shirt front or collar insert worn under a jacket or sweater to give the appearance of a full shirt beneath: He wore a dickey under his V-neck to look more formal.

The word also refers to a small bird (especially a dickeybird in British English), a donkey, or a rumble seat—the fold-out rear seat in old automobiles.

As an adjective, chiefly British, dickey means in poor condition or unreliable: a dickey heart.
