dequeue

Pop from front

Dequeue is a computing term meaning to remove an item from a queue, the opposite of enqueue.

In programming, queues process items in first-in-first-out order, so to dequeue is to take the next item waiting its turn: The system dequeues print jobs as the printer becomes available.

The word functions as both verb and noun, with the noun referring either to the action or to the item being removed.
