depolarizer

Voltage difference eliminator

A depolarizer is a substance or device that prevents or reverses polarization.

In electrochemistry, depolarizers are added to batteries to prevent the buildup of hydrogen gas at electrodes, which would otherwise reduce current flow.

The term extends to anything that counteracts polarization—whether electrical, optical, or figurative: The mediator acted as a depolarizer in the heated debate.
