democratizations
Shifts toward popular rule
Democratizations is the plural of democratization—the process of becoming democratic or of making institutions more democratic.
The term appears in discussions of political transitions: The democratizations of Eastern Europe after 1989 followed different paths.
It can also describe broadening access or participation in non-political contexts: democratizations of art, education, technology.
