Semicircular defensive fortification
A demi-lune is a half-moon shape or a crescent-shaped object.
In architecture and fortification, it refers to an outwork with two faces forming a projecting angle—a defensive structure placed before a curtain wall.
The term also applies to semicircular furniture pieces, particularly console tables designed to stand against a wall: a demi-lune table in the foyer.
